Rustenburg based artist, Thea Luüs, plays with colour and texture to explore inner spaces and dreams. Her work is a whimsical reflection of her work with children and students of all ages. In the fast-paced world we live in, this exhibition allows space to breathe and experience the Therapy of beauty and creating beautiful things. Majestic Waters was chosen as venue, because it offers rest and solace in its tranquil surroundings and decor. Thus, viewing the artist’s work in a living space that reflects the peace she finds in her work invites the viewer to enter into the same rest.
Growing up in the bushveld of the North-West, she studied and worked in and around Johannesburg for many years, but chose to return to her home town to give back of her art to her community. Her classes offer an opportunity for others to experience the same healing that she expresses as they face tough times and seek escape from the rat-race.
Earlier in her career, she worked figuratively and delved into similarly playful themes such as carnivals. Currently, she makes use of intuitive methods, much like doodling, that reflect subconscious patterns and colours. Visitors to the exhibition will also enjoy the opportunity to play and explore this joyful process by contributing to a collaborative “doodle”.
